2023 Coaches
Coach Laura will be returning as the head coach of the Heights Hammerheads! A note from Coach Laura:
I have over 25 years of experience developed methods for teaching and coaching swimming. I was first certified as a Water Safety Instructor for the Red Cross in 1982. I later went on to Washington DC to write curriculum for the National organization. I have gone on to be part some very innovated and experienced programs. I have taken part in pilot programs with the YMCA, Jewish Community Centers and Red Cross. These pilot programs took me across the country to work with some of the best. I have taught water babies to water exercise. I have trained swim instructor and developed instruction curriculum. I have enjoyed meeting families from all over the world. Their experience and vast points of views have been fun and interesting to learn about and integrate into my programs
I coached my first team in 1992 at Paradise Manor in River Ridge La. We had swimmers from three to seventeen years old. I have since coached soccer and swimming at Trinity Middle school in New Orleans and Hogg Middle School in Houston. I have coached swimming at McGee’s and Reagan High School. I coached the Inter-mural swim team at Tulane University in New Orleans. I coached a YMCA team of over 250 swimmers to the state championship win. I am a USA team coach most recently with the Bridge Bats. I am currently employed at the British International school where I have nearly 70 primary, 30 middle school and 28 high school swimmers. The middle school team took first place this year in the championship meets. We will enter TAPPS with my High school program next year. With only three years under our belt we look to compete easily at a regional level and attend state with a viable team.
I am excited to be coming back to summer league coaching, most especially in the neighborhood that I love so much. It has been my dream to see a swim program in the Heights. I will be bringing to your swimmers and coaching staff a unique coaching method, I have proven works over and over again. This method is based in neurology and physiology research. It takes a thoughtful holistic look and the bodies relationship to water.
As Coach Laura's daughter, I learned to swim long before I could walk. Growing up I competed on Summer League, USA, and School teams. I began helping coach as early as about 11 or 12 years old. I have gone on to assist coaching at pretty much all of the teams that my mom has worked for. While my full time passion is in the Hospitality Industry and the General Manager of Revival Market in the Heights, I always try to get back in the water every summer to either teach lessons or coach. I live and work in the Heights, and love the neighborhood, and am excited to be able to assist with such a great program!
